Princess and The Frog

Coming up next....

I Can Do Bad All By Myself

I Can Do Bad All By Myself
Directed by: Tyler Perry
Cast: Tarji Henson, Adam Rodriquez, Tyler Perry, Brian White...

In a nutshell, this movie is about a selfish, single woman who without preparation gets stuck with her deceased sisters kids. Discovering life isnt all fun and games she slows down and sees a value in life.

I had been waiting to see this movie. However, I forgot that this was one of Tyler Perry's "I like to dress like a woman" movies. Don't get me wrong, I have respect for TP movies and I think that its great that he is putting movies out quite frequently. I also admire the fact that he doesnt just put in the same actors in his movies ALL the time and that he actually chooses good actors with different shades of black. I dont know how many times I watch a movie and never ever see a darker skinned black woman or man. And usually its always the same handful of black actors in other movies, so I appreciate his variety.

Now, I am going to question...why the heck do black men love to dress up as women? Tyler Perry, Martin Lawerence, Eddie Murphy, etc.  Not to say that ALL black men dress up as women, but these black men are very prominent in the Hollywood scene....why be a woman? So with this being said, Madea is a complete distraction for me. I do not like the humor behind Madea and I dont get it. Some might say, "Well, your not black," which they are right, Im not. I just cant stand seeing a man dress up as a woman in so MANY films, and go on and on about nothing and think its funny.

I felt this movie was a rush job and wasnt written very well. It was a faced paced movie that was very slow. WTHeck does that mean? It had holes, lack of character, and jumped around...and yet it moved really slow in telling the story. Let me just say I had to fast forward through many parts...even Tarji walking up the stairs. TP also put way too many long songs in it. I felt like he was shooting a video, or he wanted me to think I was in church. I like songs in a movie, but come on... the songs weren't all that great and I felt like they were the extended version! ( I had to fast forward those too.)

I am disappointed in the way that Tyler Perry has notoriously portrayed black men. In most of his movies I notice a lack of strength in black man. Not just a black man, but a man in general. The men are always low down and the women are always full of all the strength with the "I dont need you or a man" type of attitude. But I guess that is what makes him famous. I keep watching, so I suppose it working.

To wrap it up...I didnt really care for this movie. I love Tarji Henson, but sad to say, this movie didnt help her career. I wouldnt recommend this movie for anyone to watch.
Lets hope "Why Did I Get Married? 2 " is a bit better.

Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story

Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story
Directed by : Thomas Carter
Cast: Cuba Gooding Jr., Kimberly Elise, and Aunganue Ellis...

Gifted Hands was a surprisingly great movie. I accidentally came across it one night at Blockbuster and I had never heard anything about it, so I didn't know if I was going to be wasting a hour or so of my time.
The movie is based on a true story about Ben Carson. As a boy he had it rough, but through perseverance, his faith and the faith of his mother, he became a world renowned Pediatric Neurologist. His story is amazing and gave me a feeling of strength as a mother. I know as a mother it gets tiring for us to keep on our kids...but Ben Carson's story gave me conformation that what I was doing, pushing my children, is what I am supposed to be doing. The dedication he had to self-educate is beyond measures. His ability to see not just what the physical eyes can see is truly inspiring. The support from his wife was also a key in his success.

This movie wasn't over sexual...actually not sexual at all. It didn't show any butts or boobs, so its ok for the whole family.

As a black movie, produced and actors, I found that this movie is overshadowed and overlooked. Of course because it is a positive black movie, not just about cook-outs and church, it didn't get the recognition as it should. I give Cuba credit for being apart of such a positive film.
